Anesthesia care matched to the patient and the procedure

Every plan is set only after Dr. Patel reviews the patient's full medical history and speaks with the treating dental office.

Minimal & Moderate Sedation

Light to moderate IV sedation for patients who are anxious about treatment or need to stay still and comfortable through a longer appointment. Patients typically remain responsive to voice throughout.

Deep Sedation

A deeper level of sedation for more extensive procedures, with continuous monitoring of breathing, heart rhythm, and oxygenation.

General Anesthesia

Full unconsciousness for patients undergoing extensive dental or oral surgery, or who cannot otherwise tolerate treatment. Airway management is continuous and dedicated for the duration of the case.

Pediatric Sedation

Weight-based, age-appropriate protocols for children who need restorative or surgical dental work beyond what can be done while awake.

Special Needs & Complex Medical Histories

Extra planning time and, when appropriate, coordination with the patient's specialists for patients with developmental, cardiac, respiratory, or seizure conditions.

Adult & Geriatric Sedation

Careful dose adjustment and monitoring for adult patients, including those with multiple medications or age-related risk factors.

Questions

What patients usually ask

Answers to the most common questions about cost, safety, and what to expect.

Is anesthesia covered by dental or medical insurance?
Coverage varies by plan. Dharini Patel MD INC. does not bill insurance directly, but an itemized receipt is provided on request so you can seek reimbursement from your insurer. The full fee and deposit terms are explained in the Payment Agreement before you book.
How much does it cost, and when is the deposit due?
Fees depend on the anesthesia time, sedation level, and case complexity, and an estimate is shared before your appointment. A deposit is collected securely by card at the time of booking to hold your time slot; any remaining balance is due the day of the procedure.
Who is in the room during the procedure?
Dr. Patel is present and dedicated solely to administering and monitoring anesthesia throughout the procedure — a separate role from the dentist performing the treatment. For safety, parents and family members are not permitted in the treatment room during the procedure itself.
What age range do you treat?
Both pediatric and adult patients, with protocols adjusted for age, weight, and health history. Every case is reviewed individually before anesthesia is approved.
Why can't I eat or drink before the appointment?
An empty stomach is essential to prevent aspiration under sedation. Exact cutoffs for food, water, and medications are listed on the Pre & Post-Operative Instructions page and are reviewed with you before your visit — not following them may require rescheduling.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Notice of at least 48 hours lets us reopen the time slot for another patient. Cancellations with less notice, or procedures that can't proceed because pre-operative instructions weren't followed, may forfeit the deposit — full terms are in the Payment Agreement.
